Wichita St. had four of its five starters score in double digits and were led by P.J. Cousinard’s game high 15 pts. Game #2 CHARLOTTE 56 vs. MONMOUTH 58 (OT) - (4th and 6th place)
In the first overtime game of the tournament, Charlotte and Monmouth lit up the court with Monmouth coming out on top. Monmouth’s Whitney Coleman didn’t score a lot (9 pts.), but scored when it mattered. Coleman’s lay up at the 18 second mark tied the score at 50 to send the game into overtime and his 3-pointer with 13 seconds left proved to be the game winner. Charlotte was led by Leemire Goldwire’s game high 18 pts. and Monmouth’s Nick Del Tufo led his team with 13 pts.

GAME #3 GEORGIA TECH 70 / NOTRE DAME 69 (3RD AND 5TH PLACE)
Georgia Tech proved that it isn’t where you start it is where you finish that counts in a closely fought game where they only held the lead early in the first half and either trailed or tied Notre Dame until Matt Causey hit a 3-pointer with two seconds left on the clock. Notre Dame’s Kyle McAlarney was able to get a shot off on the ensuing possession that rimmed out. Georgia Tech had four players score in the double digits – one of which was Jeremis Smith who scored 12 pts. and hauled in 13 rebounds. Notre Dame was led by Luke Harangody’s 22 pts. and 11 rebounds.

We may be in the laid back atmosphere of the Caribbean, but it was high tension at UVI as Notre Dame and Baylor battled for the final spot in the championship game. Baylor freshman LaceDarius Dunn knocked down a 3 pointer with 38 seconds in the game to give Baylor its final lead of the night and then followed shortly by a clutch drive and lay up from Tweety Carter. GAME #1   CHARLOTTE 64 /  UIC 63
Charlotte and UIC treated the fans to a see-saw game that showed late game heroics and a buzzer beater shot that was too little, too late from UIC’s leading scorer Josh Mayo (15 pts.) who scored all his points from behind the arc. The 49ers had three players score in the double digits and took the lead at the 12 second mark on Leemire Goldwire’s 3-pointer then got two clutch free throws from Charles Dewhurst to seal the win.

GAME #2   WICHITA ST. 50 / MONMOUTH 59
Another hotly contested game rounded out the evening’s contests, Wichita St. took a small 2 pt. lead into the half, but Monmouth was able to hit free throws down the stretch to ice the game. Friday, November 16

Game #1   CHARLOTTE 77 / GEORGIA TECH 82
The opening game of the 2007 tournament did not disappoint. Upset-minded Charlotte gave the Yellow Jackets all they could handle until the final buzzer. But for a few missed free throws and key possessions, the 49ers may have come out on top. Charlotte’s An’Juan Wilderness and Leemire Goldwire each scored 17 pts. and Georgia Tech’s Anthony Morrow led all scorers with 19 pts.

Game #2   UIC 58 /  WINTHROP 72
Winthrop started quickly in the night’s second game and jumped out to a 16 pt. lead at the half going 6 of 10 from behind the arc. UIC played a much stronger second half but could not overcome the Eagle’s rebounding and Taj McCullough’s 21 pts. UIC was led by Josh Mayo’s 16 pts.

Game #3 BAYLOR 64 / WICHITA STATE 55
The Baylor Bears showed some second half toughness to overcome Wichita St. in the first of the evening games. Baylor was led by the 23 pts. of Curtis Jerrells while Wichita’s Ramon Clemente pulled down an impressive 13 rebounds.

Game #4 MONMOUTH 33 / NOTRE DAME 76
Notre Dame’s swarming defense and impressive 61% shooting from the field made for a dominating win over Monmouth to round out the evening games. The Irish held Monmouth to only 8 pts. in the second half. Three of Notre Dame’s five starters scored in the double digits, led by Rob Kurz with 15 pts.
