Sunday, November 25

GAME 1: (0-3) PURDUE 53 / (1-2) OLD DOMINION 66
ODU played arguably the toughest schedule in the St. Thomas Division playing three ranked teams in three days (No. 2 Connecticut, No. 4 Stanford and No. 20 AP/No. 22 ESPN/USA Today Purdue) and this time toppled the Boilermakers to claim 5th place. The Monarchs got double figures from T.J. Jordan (17 pts.), Tiffany Green (11 pts.) and Jen Nuzzo (10 pts.). Purdue was led by Danielle Campbell’s game high 19 pts. and Lakisha Freeman’s 18 pts.Saturday, November 24

GAME 2: (1-2) TEMPLE 54 / (2-1) STANFORD 63
The Temple Owls held a convincing lead over No. 4 Stanford in the first half – stretching to 19 pts. and taking a 17 pt. lead into halftime. The Cardinal, however, wasted little time erasing the margin and had the game tied within 8 minutes behind the 22 pts. of Candice Wiggins and Jillian Harmon’s double/double (13 pts., 10 rebs.). The Cardinal took home some 3rd place hardware and finished 2-1 on the tournament. Temple was led by the 19 pts. of Ashley Morris and finished 1-2.

GAME 3: DUKE 48 / CONNECTICUT 74
Connecticut made quick work of the Blue Devils last night to win the 2007 St. Thomas Division championship. Maya Moore turned in another stellar performance and was selected as tournament MVP. The Huskies had three players in double digits (Tina Charles, 13 pts., Maya Moore, 12 pts. and Kalana Greene 10 pts.) and lit up the gym with their up tempo offense and stifling defense. Duke was lead by All-Tournament team selection Chanté Black’s 16 pts.


GAME 1: (0-3) WICHITA ST. 47 / (3-0) WAKE FOREST 54
Wake Forest claimed the St. John Division championship over Wichita St. in a closely played game to go undefeated for the tournament. The two teams went into the half knotted at 26 although the Shockers were able to hold a lead for most of the first half. Wake Forest was able to take the lead early in the second half and maintained a narrow margin to pull out the win. The Demon Deacon’s Camille Collier went 3 for 4 from behind the arc to score a game high 17 pts. The Shockers were led by Kyrie Kinder’s 12 pts.

GAME 2: (1-2) INDIANA 48 / (2-1) TEXAS A&M 60
The Aggies had a tough time putting away the Hoosiers yesterday, but finally stretched their lead to double digits midway through the second half to claim the 2nd spot in the overall standing for the St. John’s Division. Texas A&M scored 27 pts. off turnovers and got a game high 17 pts. from Takia Starks. Indiana’s leading scorer was Jamie Braun with 14 pts.

GAME 3: TEMPLE 61 / PURDUE 47
The Temple Owls outran the Boilermakers last night to bring their record even (1-1) for the tournament and will play in the 3rd/4th place game in the St. Thomas Division. The Owls scored first and never looked back maintaining the lead from start to finish starting with an impressive 20-8 run. The Owls were led by Ashley Morris’ 19 pts. and Purdue was led by the 15 pts. of Danielle Campbell.           

GAME 4: (0-2) OLD DOMINION 61 / (1-1) STANFORD 69
With Candice Wiggins spending much of the game on the bench in foul trouble, the Cardinal got some big numbers from Kayla Pedersen (21 pts., 11 rebs.) and Jillian Harmon (16 pts.) to put away the pesky Monarchs. ODU used swarming defense and great outside shooting from Jen Nuzzo (3-4 from behind the arc, 14 pts.) that included a buzzer beater from nearly half court to end the game.


Friday, November 23

GAME #1   (1-1) INDIANA 64 / (0-2) WICHITA ST. 54
Indiana was able to overcome a 10 pt. deficit in the in the second quarter to get even on the tournament (1-1), Wichita St. drops to 0-2. The two teams went into the half tied at 29 and the Hoosiers were able to get double digit scoring from Whitney Thomas (10 pts.), Nikki Smith (16 pts.) and Jamie Braun (19 pts.). The Shockers were led by Kiki Stephens’ 14 pts.

GAME #2  (1-1) TEXAS A&M 46 / (2-0) WAKE FOREST 53
Wake Forest pulled off an upset over Texas A&M (No. 11 AP, No. 10 ESPN/USA Today) last night with clutch free throw shooting down the stretch. The Demon Deacons took the lead for good on a free throw from Alex Tchangoue at the 5:17 mark. Wake Forest then turned up the defense and held on for the win behind four more free throws from Tchangoue who had a game high 16 pts. Texas A&M was led by Takia Starks’ 15 pts.

GAME #3  DUKE 64 / TEMPLE 53
Duke (No. 9 AP, No. 8 ESPN/USA Today moved to 2-0 in the tournament with a tightly played contest against Temple. Temple held the lead for a short time in the first half, but Duke was able to use a balanced scoring attack, led by the 13 pts. of both Chanté Black and Carrem Gay, to secure the win. Gay also tallied 12 rebs. Temple was led by Lady Comfort’s game high 15 pts. and 10 rebs. 

GAME #4  (2-0) CONNECTICUT 86 / (0-1) OLD DOMINION 43
No. 2 Connecticut had no trouble dispensing of the ODU Monarchs last night to bring their tournament record to 2-0 and secure a place in the championship game for the St. Thomas division to face Duke. The Huskies’ ability to attack inside and outside showed as four players scored in double digits – Tina Charles (15 pts.), Renee Montgomery (12 pts.), Kalana Greene and Maya Moore (10 pts.). The Monarchs were led by T.J. Jordan with 13 pts.


Thursday, November 22

GAME #1   WAKE FOREST 55 / INDIANA 53
Wake Forest’s Corrine Groves’ two made free throws with 17 seconds left on the clock proved to be the game winners to go along with her game high 22 pts. Groves collected a double/double by also bringing down 12 rebounds to lead the Demon Deacons to a 55-53 win over Indiana. The Hoosiers were led by Jamie Braun’s 17 pts. who also hit six 3-pointers in the contest.

GAME #2   WICHITA ST. 36 / TEXAS A&M 70
Texas A&M (No. 10 ESPN/USA Today, No. 11 AP) brought their top 25 ranking to St. Thomas and had little trouble defeating Wichita St. in their first game of the tournament. The Aggies scored 37 pts. off turnovers and had three players in double digits. The Shockers were led by Daria Frazier and Marcy Sudbeck who each had 8 pts.

GAME #3 PURDUE 41 / DUKE 53
Although it took both teams awhile to heat up, two more top 25 teams took the floor for the first of the evening’s games. Duke (No. 9 AP, No. 8 ESPN/USA Today) at one point went on an 18-1 run that Purdue (No. 22 AP, No. 20 ESPN/USA Today) could not overcome in the end. Duke was led by the 15 pts. of Jasmine Thomas and got a double/double (10 pts., 11 rebs.) from Chanté Black. Purdue’s leading scorer was Danielle Campbell with 13 pts.

GAME #4 STANFORD 54 / CONNECTICUT 66
The much anticipated early season match up between two top five teams was an athletic, fast paced game in which UCONN controlled from start to finish. The No. 2 ranked Huskies jumped out to a quick 9 pt. lead over No. 4 ranked Stanford to start the first half and never relinquished throughout. The Cardinal made a few runs to cut the lead to single digits, but UCONN was able to answer each surge. UCONN was led by freshman Maya Moore’s 19 pts. and Stanford All-American Candice Wiggins led the Cardinal with 15 pts.
