More details

Since November 2000, the University of the Virgin Islands Paradise Jam has been a prime location for stiff early-season women’s basketball competition. All four participants that first year were ranked Top-25 in pre-season polls, with Southwest Missouri State making it to the Final Four.

The participants since then have continued that tradition of excellence. Seven of the eight teams in the 2002 field made it to the NCAA tournament, with Duke making it all the way to the Final Four. Four of the eight 2003 participants earned trips to the 2004 NCAA tournament. The 2004 Paradise Jam field sent three teams into March Madness, with Rutgers advancing to the elite eight. The 2005 field was the best yet in tournament history, with Maryland winning the NCAA tournament, joined by Tennessee, Michigan State and Minnesota in NCAA post-season action.  Two teams from the 2007 tournament earned berths in the Final Four, with Stanford beating Connecticut in the semi-finals to earn a spot in the national championship game.  Five teams danced in March from the 2008 tournament in St. Thomas, followed by six teams from the 2009 Paradise Jam, with Oklahoma making it all the way to the Final Four. In 2010, five teams advanced to the NCAA tournament with Tennessee making it to the Elite Eight.

Obviously, America’s Caribbean is the place to go for great early-season women’s basketball competition at the University of the Virgin Islands Paradise Jam!
